The Kanorado Fire Department is like the Rural Fire, made up of
volunteers and the Fire Chief. The area they take care of runs
from the Kansas-Colorado Stateline East to SH CO. Road 10 plus
North to the Sherman-Cheyenne Co. line and South to the Sherman-
Wallace Co. line. Kanorado Fire also takes care of any fire call
within the City of Kanorado.
The Kanorado Fire Chief issues the County Burn Permits for the
residents living in the Kanorado Fire District including any
burns in the City. He is the one responsible to keep the records
of permits issued plus records of any time they get called to
a fire. Again it is unknown to me if the County pays the Chief
any wages for all he is responsible to take care of.
The Firemen are responsible to keep up with training in fire
fighting plus they must keep the vehicles maintained. It wouldn't
be nice to try and respond to a fire and have a truck that wouldn't
run! I'm not sure what the training or Fire Department meeting
times are but I hope once this is up and running someone will
fill me in more on things. That is part of the idea behind this
site learning more about the ones we work with.
Kanorado Citizens are lucky to have the volunteers willing to
make the time and effort to help keep Kanorado safe. Plus being
so close to the Colorado line there are times they go and help
our neighbors in the next state fight fires. Alot of people have
no idea what it is like being subject to call at any time of
day or night. You must keep your personal items ready to go at
any time. Getting woke up in the middle of the night or having
to leave the table just as soon as a great meal had been placed
in front of you. Then coming back home tired and dirty from
working to put out a fire and now covered with smoke and soot.
Then it may be time to go to work so no chance to crawl back in
bed or you get to eat a cold dried out meal. It does take someone
special willing to do all of that. This County is lucky to have
so many willing to do so in all the areas.
I've tried to give information as best as I know about our
KFD. This Ice Sculpture was made to honor the FDNY after the 09-11-01
Terrorist Attack on the WTC. If you hold your mouse pointer over the
picture it will show you more information about the sculpture.
Everyone remembers and honors All those brave Firefighters but we also
need to remember our area Firefighters. They also risk their lives every time
they respond to a call. Sometimes what some may see as a simple grass fire can
suddenly turn in to a deadly dissaster. Plus any fire in a barn, shed, or garage
may contain chemicals. These chemicals may be no problem when used correctly on the
farm but can turn deadly in a fire.
I have tried to give the basics of our Kanorado Fire Department.
Return to this site for future updates. With help we will soon
learn a lot more about the ones making up our KFD.
As of 10/24/2005 the following list the firefighters of the KFD.
